The Greater Toronto Area
The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) consists of 25 municipalities and four regions with a total population of 5 million. The City of Toronto has a population of 2.6 million, is the 5th largest city in N. America, and is an amalgamation of the prior municipalities of York, East York, North York, City of Toronto, Etobicoke and Scarborough.
The Greater Toronto Area is home to an impressive number of post secondary educational institutions, including ten universities and colleges. The public school system is used by most families. The GTA’s safety, cleanliness and ethnic diversity, combined with racial and cultural harmony, set it apart from other large urban centres.
